Last week There was a morning where a thick mist wrapped the whole town and lasted well into the early day. Before 8 a.m. you wouldn't have seen Jack the Ripper until he was right next to you, closer to lunch it was still lingering, just slightly softening the gray contours of this fall day.

My faculty is surrounded by a park, called "The English Park" on one side and the old graveyard on the other side. This is part of The English Park, on my way to class.

It's a nice but crowded old cemetery where they have ghost walks sometimes, during cultural events.

Normally I miss the US on the rare occasion that I'm away from there in Halloween times, this year is no exception, but a few things make it more bearable, the pretty fall colors for one thing, and the fact that I'm going to a Halloween party at an old friend's house on Saturday. Also, this weekend I'm going to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] tommdroid and [livejournal.com profile] prettyochpink, which feels great, since I haven't seen them in a year.

I'm a little happy, a little grateful a little melancholic and a little reflective these days, which fits the times I suppose...
Come spring I'll probably kick some things to the curb, but right now I'm letting it linger and processing it.

pffff...that neighbor clearly needs to be reminded about the joys of life.

So does the other neighbour across the street who must have a leaf phobia since he has been cleaning his tiny little garden with a leaf blower once a week since August...

I'm surrounded by stupid Dutch people who want everything organised and clean and neat and who don't want nature to interfere with their ugly little gardens.

Their gardens must truly be ugly, with no leafs in them!!

I remember how much fun it was as a kid to rake up all the leaves in the yard into a huge pile and then everyone would jump into the leaves or if it was a particularly high pile someone was always willing to toss you in and then in an explosion of screams and colors you played until you were called into the house to get ready for dinner.

There is a special corner of paradise, where it's always fall... and it's full of HUGE leaf piles and happy people and dogs jumping in 'em!
