Awesome! Reminds me of the Paul Potts dude! :-)

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The Paul Potts dude, hmmm, anything I need to check out?

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Also excellent!! (although, from what I've seen of male opera stars, his looks will most significantly NOT be in the way of a star sprinkled career).

Still, did you notice how much less prejudice there was around this guy?

[identity profile] idemandjustice.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
There still seemed to be some chuckling and eye-rolling. I think they just didn't show it as much.

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, there was some BS going around the guy as well..but it was less and not quite as blatant (because I think the camera guys have a tendency of embracing all kinds of BS in the judges and the audience on these kinds of shows), on the other hand, the positive surprise reactions were also...just a tad bit more expressed around her, which sort of agrees with the general observation.

[identity profile] elenuial.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep in mind that you can only see what the camera shows you, and somebody is controlling that to engineer your emotions.

But, yeah, I was reminded of that, too. :)

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I know..but in general I think camera guys embrace all kinds of prejudice BS on shows like these..so maybe the amounts were not too far off from some kind of truth. On the other hand, while both guy and gal got a ton of positive feedback, the gal got much more surprised feedback, don't you think?

[identity profile] elenuial.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, totally. :)

[identity profile] asphalteden.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Outstanding!

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It made my day, it did!

[identity profile] euqort.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
loved it! *sniff*

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too! I cried, laughed and went HA! at the same time. Not very often that happens...

[identity profile] timcharmorbien.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for sharing this with us!

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The love has to be SHARED!!

[identity profile] wavebreaker.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm shocked about all the negativity about this woman's appearance, as if she's some sort of monster from out of space. I think she's a lovely lady with a real personality. But that's not what people want to see on TV, they want anorexic Barbie dolls who all look the same. Good for her for making everyone look stupid!

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I completely agree! Except that I wasn't that shocked, unfortunately I know that most people (particularly on tv) are shallow and with skewed views on appearances, in short, they suck.

[identity profile] wavebreaker.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it happens all the time, but I just can't get used to it... This evening I heard a TV presenter talk about the Argentinian guy who won the Masters golf tournament as "that fatty". He didn't even mention his name and said it was a disgrace that someone "as fat as that" should win a prestigious golf tournament like that. WTF?? Apparently, the guy is good enough to win this tournament, so who cares what he looks like? But these days, what you look like is far more important than what you can do or what you have achieved, and that pisses me off...

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why it's so important that people who don't look "right" kick the asses of those who do, in sports, arts and whathaveyou.

[identity profile] wavebreaker.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Although it didn't really work for that TV presenter... ;-)

[identity profile] wavebreaker.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thought you might like to read this article (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/apr/16/britains-got-talent-susan-boyle). ;-)

Yup, very good article, about sums it up on most of humanity.

Crying at my desk

[identity profile] lelain.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That was amazing and so inspirational! Three cheers for the underdog!
Thanks for sharing!

Glad you liked it!

Loved her-- what a lovely woman, got all flustered about the villages and then belted out that gorgeous song. Fie on Simon, that little bullshitter.

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, that he is!
Seeing her being all human and excellent made me realize what a rarity being human and excellent really is on tv. I even think there might be some sublime censorship going on...

[identity profile] simpletwice.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is pretty great. That lady's my new hero.

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
She's a brave, strong & worthy hero in the entertainment biz, where such things are hard to find!

[identity profile] mortaliticia.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
JOY!! :) Thanks for posting that!

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it, it does bring a smile easily!

[identity profile] tuckova.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
It is NOT AT ALL SAFE if you are in a place where you can't cry.

Fortunately, I work from home, and I am never more than 3 steps from a box of tissue.

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
What evil place would let you listen to music and yet not cry??
Sounds like hell to me!

[identity profile] americantjej.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
love it. DH showed it to me a couple of days ago and i have watched it every evening to make me smile.

[identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Her voice is great enough to be addictive, and the whole situation is hilarious enough to watch many times!

[identity profile] tooticky.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you seal, you're right - that pressed all the right buttons for me this morning. *schniff*
