Also excellent!! (although, from what I've seen of male opera stars, his looks will most significantly NOT be in the way of a star sprinkled career).

Still, did you notice how much less prejudice there was around this guy?

There still seemed to be some chuckling and eye-rolling. I think they just didn't show it as much.

I agree, there was some BS going around the guy as well..but it was less and not quite as blatant (because I think the camera guys have a tendency of embracing all kinds of BS in the judges and the audience on these kinds of shows), on the other hand, the positive surprise reactions were also...just a tad bit more expressed around her, which sort of agrees with the general observation.

Keep in mind that you can only see what the camera shows you, and somebody is controlling that to engineer your emotions.

But, yeah, I was reminded of that, too. :)

I know, I know..but in general I think camera guys embrace all kinds of prejudice BS on shows like these..so maybe the amounts were not too far off from some kind of truth. On the other hand, while both guy and gal got a ton of positive feedback, the gal got much more surprised feedback, don't you think?

I'm shocked about all the negativity about this woman's appearance, as if she's some sort of monster from out of space. I think she's a lovely lady with a real personality. But that's not what people want to see on TV, they want anorexic Barbie dolls who all look the same. Good for her for making everyone look stupid!

Date: 2009-04-14 10:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sealwhiskers.livejournal.com
I completely agree! Except that I wasn't that shocked, unfortunately I know that most people (particularly on tv) are shallow and with skewed views on appearances, in short, they suck.

I know it happens all the time, but I just can't get used to it... This evening I heard a TV presenter talk about the Argentinian guy who won the Masters golf tournament as "that fatty". He didn't even mention his name and said it was a disgrace that someone "as fat as that" should win a prestigious golf tournament like that. WTF?? Apparently, the guy is good enough to win this tournament, so who cares what he looks like? But these days, what you look like is far more important than what you can do or what you have achieved, and that pisses me off...

That's why it's so important that people who don't look "right" kick the asses of those who do, in sports, arts and whathaveyou.

Absolutely. Although it didn't really work for that TV presenter... ;-)

haha, that he is!
Seeing her being all human and excellent made me realize what a rarity being human and excellent really is on tv. I even think there might be some sublime censorship going on...

It is NOT AT ALL SAFE if you are in a place where you can't cry.

Fortunately, I work from home, and I am never more than 3 steps from a box of tissue.
