1) If you had to pack ten books for a desert island, what would they be?
This is a very very hard question. I would probably be miserable but..if I have to choose: (1. A Winters Tale by Mark Helprin, a magical book, 2. The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee, for nostalgia, 3. Burning Your Boats a collection of all short stories by Angela Carter, because Carter is a necessity, and a good short story collection is so as well,4. Late in November by Tove Jansson, because I have to bring with me at least one Moomin-book, and that one is my favorite, 5. Peter Beagle's The Last Unicorn because I need one fairy tale, 6. at least one poetry collection by Wyslawa Szymborska or Sharon Olds(Perhaps The Unswept Room in the latter case), 7. Lorcas The Gypsy Ballads although it's hard to choose among his stuff, 8. Gösta Berlings saga by Selma Lagerlöf - one great Swedish book, 9. I need some sci-fi, perhaps Jack Vance's Dying Earth collection (in one volume, so not to cheat), 10. And finally the LotR trilogy in one volume - because I'm always in the end a complete screaming geek.
But I would have to exchange one of these for some good written porn/erotica if I'd have to stay long on that island, and then I would cry cry cry because so many books were left behind.
2) Tell me three things about where you live that would make it seem appealing.
There are so many appealing things with Sweden..the older I get and the more I travel I see just how lucky we are in this country. We have something called "every man's right" which means that you can walk wherever you like in the woods and along the lovely coastlines - even if it's private property - as long as you don't damage anything but show respect to the landscape. We also have free health care, six weeks payed vacation and a press/media situation that isn't as obnoxious and angled (yet) as in many other countries.
3) How about three things you don't like about it?
people are shy and uptight, the weather several months of the year is bad, the darkness in winter time is even worse.
4) What would you like to believe happens after death?
Change, reflection, consciousness, choice and transformation.
("would like to believe" is a nice way of phrasing this one..)
5) What would your perfect day be like?
Like an empty canvas to paint together with someone special. I have too few of those days right now.
I hate planning these days, I end up doing it and messing it up all the time...
