oh america

I am sort of exhausted by the election drama, and the astonishing amount of plain dumb comments I've seen from right wing corners (from every corner, admittedly, but mostly from that corner). Quite a lot of McCain voters' general response to the fact that most prime ministers in Europe are Obama supporters, and that Obama in general has more support among people in Europe than McCain has, is to say: We don't give a crap, in fact: we should do the opposite to what the world (our allies) seem to think.

And there, right there, is the new tragic of the US of today, post Bush. The gargantuan "We don't give a fuck, as long as we can raise our flag and shout loud enough, it doesn't matter that we're criticized" - factor.

I keep wondering if I can stay here, I keep writing things and erasing them.
A friend of mine from Sweden, who was invited to come and visit us, decided not to, because he dislikes the US so much today (he has been to the US before). I think he's kind of centrist, and thus not a leftie like me, but I'm not sure. The letter he wrote to me, explaining why, in spite of being a good friend of mine, he couldn't go through with it right now...made sense.

Does it sound idiotic to say that I think he feels that the US has betrayed the world?

It does cost a country a lot, if they call themselves the best in the world, to fall from that throne in peoples eyes. And does the country care that the world is not cheering with them any longer, that its only their own voices?

well, enough tiresome idealism. I'll just have to see what I'll do with my future.
I won't deny that it makes a difference if the CO State Archives throw me to the wolves or not. I will know if I have a job in a week or two, at the most. My projects will be done, and all that needs to be decided is if the archivist I've been filling in for is coming back or not.
This and the election is draining me a bit right now. And to top it all off I had a virus on my computer this week, and had to wipe it all clean.
