On a break
Mar. 8th, 2005 09:23 amIt is, currently, possible for me to delve into my own private pockets of the internet when I'm on a break at the archives. It is still very small pockets we're talking about, and it is still a State agency I'm sitting at, so, while my closest boss ok:s it, someone else might not in the future. Therefore this won't be a habit.
But it's been so long since I updated...and I'm so tired in the evenings and few free hours I have that I'm seldom inspired to write.
To be an archivist in the states you just need any kind of degree! Christ on a stick what a difference! Where I come from you already have to have some sort of degree to even apply to the program. I suspect I'm shortchanging my career and profession by moving to the States - on the other hand there might be a larger working market here, since Sweden is so small.
I dunnow, I've always had bad luck with career oriented things. (I suspect the difference lies in the larger quantity of very old material that exists in Europe, and that the proffession is 400 years old over there).
I've already done a variety of things during these weeks, like: organizing microfilm of ancient (...like 160 years old..heh..)documents, going through interesting collections of governor Carr's about the Japanese work camps during WWII, and working on upgrading their on line database.
...and I might find myself married before the year is done. I must admit that I never really envisioned myself in that role. Not truly. If it happens it will be a simple and modest story. Writing on a paper, photo and witnesses. My absent mom have made me promise to at least not wear black if it comes to that (and she's bitter because I don't invite them to a wedding..), superstitious as always.
But I guess it is too early to write about this. One day I'll just make an entry with the words: I'm a wife. (I hate that word!)
Or maybe it'll just be a secret...shhh-shhh!
This country is fixed on marriage I tell you! Why is life partner not enough?
which brings me to:
There's currently a bill in Washington called the Permanent Partners Immigration Act, which if passed, would do a very simple, yet very big thing; that being changing the word "spouse" to "permanent partner", allowing gay and lesbian couples to be recognized for immigration purposes.
Through Amnesty International, any fellow Americans out there can join the campaign to get this legislation passed. It takes just a minute, you don't even have to mail things for real anymore.

...Found through various people on my friendslist.
In other news: I saw Constantine and actually liked it, in spite of Keanu and the discrepancies from the great magazine Hellblazer from which the Brit John Constantine originates (well..not strictly, but close enough to satiate anyone except the most anal graphic novel connoisseurs). I used to love him...the trench coat, the cursing, the extremely gory, blasphemic stories - many of them soiling the English royal house, the bible, colonialism, America and much much more.
But time has passed and today I'm just amused that they made a film, and that I was entertained by it. Also, Tilda Swinton makes a glorious Gabriel. I luuv her.
...aaand I'm going to my first RPG (role-playing-game!) on American ground tonight!
..aaaaaand I'm gonna see Billy Collins live in Denver on the 16th of March!!! yay poetry. By a good poet. who's not narcissistic.
I can't stress the last part enough, because I'm so fucking tired of narcissism en masse, which makes me highly eligible for a certain department in Hell, specifically designed for the double faced idiots that roam LJ and have the nerve to complain about narcissism.
I'm going down with fire up my ass....
