Oh Sweden...
Nov. 3rd, 2004 07:29 am*Where the government may suck sometimes...but where there are more parties than one to always even out the balance.
*Where you are not called a hater of your nation when you are being critically minded.
*Where women are in charge of their own bodies and same sex marriages are a piece of cake.
*Where we have free health care.
*Where our old people at least will not be eating dog food anytime soon.
*Where you don't see homeless people in *every* street corner in the city core.
*Where we still, most of us, have a core mentality of sharing, and not the fucking shit boneless individualism that is tearing USA apart. Individualism in politics equals just one thing: egoism.
*Where our college education is free.
These are values, and not the twisted "family values" that seem to run the stupid states.
I was actually more or less prepared for this. Defeat is not certain yet, and yes, the victory would be extremely marginal whichever party wins, but it still feels like a sad day.
This country is divided like the red sea, and it's gonna get worse.
At least Colorado democrats won both house and senate...
I received so many e-mails and calls from home, asking if it was true. People can't believe...because
Bush is so disliked (hated) in Europe. My friends list is a wake, and frankly, by now I must say, that if someone is pro the "family values" that Bush provides, please, de-friend me, I just don't wanna view the celebration of people who think that it's all ok, just as long as *my* grandmom won't eat dogfood.
I am not a prophet, but I do think that the dog-food level probability in this country just rose quite a bit.
I'm a Swede and a social democrat - by American standards almost a communist, I come from a system where such things work. Certainly not perfectly, BUT I'M TIRED OF HEARING FROM AMERICANS (republicans) THAT SOCIALISM DOESN'T WORK!
Come visit, anytime. (we tax the wigs out of our millionaires, and we're proud of it!!)
There used to be republicans and republicans in the States. Shades among the Democrats as well. It is so different today form just a decade ago. Don't people *see* how bad it is?
Hugs and love to all who care about their fellow citizens on a deeper political level, who think that help and a security net for the weak is as natural as air, because we are all potentially weak.
I hate when people have revelations only when the shit hits their own fan...
Never give up hope, please. You are the reason me and my friends still care about America...
